Testıng Wagner’s Law for Turkey: ARDL Analysıs for 1980-2014 Perıod

Abstract

In this paper, the Wagner’s Law for Turkey for the period 1980-2014 is analyzed. Wagner’s law investigates whether there is a long run relationship between government expenditure and the gross national product of country. The paper uses Bounding Testing Approach (ARDL-Co-integration) techniques to test the validity of Law’s proposition. Five models are used frequently referenced in the literature for testing Wagner’s Law.

The test results differ for models. Model 4 and Model 5 have not presented a conclusive evidence about whether Wagner Law is valid or not. Conversely, results of the other three models show us that the Law is valid.

Wagner Yasası’nın Türkiye İçin Test Edilmesi: 1980-2014 Dönemine İlişkin ARDL Analizi

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Türkiye için Wagner Yasası 1980-2014 dönemi için araştırılmıştır. Wagner Yasası kamu harcamaları ile milli gelir arasındaki uzun dönemli ilişki olup olmadığını araştırır. Bu çalışmada yasanın geçerliliği Sınır Testi Yaklaşımı (ARDL) tekniği ile test edilmiştir. Yasayı test etmek için literatürde sıkça başvurulan beş model kullanılmıştır.

Elde edilen sonuçlar modeller için farklılık göstermektedir. Model 4 ve Model 5’in test sonuçları incelenen dönemde Wagner Yasasının geçerli olup olmayacağı konusunda kesin bir kanıt sunmamıştır. Buna karşın, diğer üç modelin sonuçları yasanın geçerli olduğunu göstermektedir.
