AGRICULTURAL TOTAL FACTOR PRODUCTIVITY AND CONVERGENCE ANALYSIS IN TURKEY AND EU COUNTRIES

Abstract

In this study it is analysed in the period of 1962-2006 that whether agriculture of 17 EU members countries and candidate ( in the process of membership) Turkey denote convergence in terms of total factor productivity. The study consists of two stages. At the first step total factor productivity of agriculture sectors provided with Malmquist index method. At the second step, in respect of Malmquist index values, it is searched whether existent countries indicate covergence in terms of agricultural total factor productivity; this research is actioned with boht sigma - covergence based on horizantal cross- section analyse that shows attutide of whole sampling and Nahar- Inder test based on time series analyse that provides to investigate inside sampling activity. According to carried diagnosis, the sampling does not lay out sigma-convergence attitude however according to Nahar - Inder test except Bulgaria, Denmark, and Spain other 15 countries demostrate strong convergence toward sample mean

TÜRKİYE VE AB ÜLKELERİNDE TARIMSAL TOPLAM FAKTÖR VERİMLİLİĞİ VE YAKINSAMA ANALİZİ

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, 17 AB ülkesi ile AB’ye üyelik sürecinde bulunan Türkiye’nin tarımsal toplam faktör verimliliği açısından yakınsama gösterip göstermediği 1962–2006 dönemi için incelenmektedir. Çalışma iki aşamadan oluşmaktadır. Birinci aşamada tarım sektörünün toplam faktör verimliliği Malmquist endeks yöntemi ile elde edilmektedir. İkinci aşamada ise Malmquist endeks değerlerinden hareketle, mevcut ülkelerin tarımsal toplam faktör verimliliği açısından yakınsama gösterip göstermedikleri, hem örneklemin bütününün davranışını gösteren yatay kesit analize dayalı sigma - yakınsama ile hem de örneklem içi hareketliliği ayrıştırmayı sağlayan zaman serisi analizine dayalı Nahar-Inder testi ile araştırılmaktadır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre örneklem ülkeleri sigma-yakınsama davranışı sergilememekte ancak Nahar-Inder testine göre ise Bulgaristan, İspanya ve Danimarka hariç diğer 15 ülke ortalamaya doğru yakınsama davranışı göstermektedir
