Abstract
Assessment
center is a different personnel selection method. Assessment centers assuming
important functions in the management of business and organizations with highly
reliable data especially in the selection or development of managers, are
convenient to be used in almost all sectors with the flexibility in themselves and
with their structure open to change. This personnel selection method including
a detailed assessment of the observation of various inner group or individual
actions by sufficient number of experienced managers and specialists, also
provides important advantages to “candidate managers looking for their
positions” owing to the opportunities presented in numerous and different
formats in order to exhibit their strengths. The assessment centers which are
yet to be known much in Turkey, seem to be a candidate to be an important
management technique in the future due to increasingly complicated work
processes with their dynamic structure.
The aim of this study is to put forth the historical change and
development of AC together with the content and the contribution to personnel
management (human resources management) field and provide theoretical knowledge
to academicians and professional managers about the assessment techniques and
the practical process of AC.

Abstract
Assessment center (AC) veya diğer bir
ifadeyle “değerlendirme merkezi (DM)”, farklı bir personel seçme yöntemidir.
Özellikle yöneticilerin seçiminde veya geliştirilmesinde sağladığı yüksek
düzeyde güvenilir verilerle işletme ve kuruluşların yönetiminde önemli işlevler
üstlenen değerlendirme merkezi, kendi içinde barındırdığı esneklik ve değişime
açık yapısıyla hemen tüm sektörlerde kullanılmaya uygundur. Çeşitli grup içi
veya bireysel eylemlerin yeterli sayıda deneyimli yönetici ve uzmanlar tarafından
gözlemlenip ayrıntılı bir şekilde değerlendirilmesini içeren bu personel seçme
yöntemi, güçlü yönlerini sergilemek için çok sayıda ve değişik formatlarda
sunduğu fırsatlar nedeniyle ‘pozisyonunu arayan yönetici adayları’na da önemli
avantajlar sunmaktadır. Türkiye’de henüz çok tanınmayan değerlendirme merkezi,
dinamik yapısıyla giderek karmaşıklaşan iş süreçleri nedeniyle gelecekte önemli
bir personel seçme ve geliştirme yöntemi olmaya aday görünmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı DM’nin tarihsel süreçte
yaşadığı değişim ve gelişim ile birlikte yöntemin içeriğini ve personel
yönetimi (insan kaynakları yönetimi) alanına sağladığı katkıyı ortaya koymak,
akademisyenlere ve profesyonel yöneticilere -güncel bilgiler ve gelişmeler
ışığında- DM’nin değerlendirme
teknikleri ve uygulama aşamaları ile ilgili teorik bilgi aktarımı sağlamaktır.
