Students' Opinions Regarding Animation Supported Piano Teaching Method's Materials
Abstract
The aim of this research is to reveal students’
opinion regarding animation supported piano teaching method’s materials. Data of the study were collected via qualitative
analysis. Students’ opinions are received by using “interview form” technic. To
introduce animation supported piano teaching methods materials to students,
students were taken piano lessons in five weeks (two hours a week). Students
studying in Karsiyaka Munucipial Conservatory piano classes in Izmir Constitute
the population of the study. In this study, 22 students who are between the age
of 7-9, are interviewed individually with the help of semi-structured interview
form. Sampling method is criterion sampling method to get in depth-information
about student’s opinion. Qualitative analysis includes description of
materials, classification of specified themes regarding this research, and
correlation of themes and students’ opinion. According to results, using
animations, computer games, piano teaching book,
colorful finger gloves and play dough are thought to be entertaining,
striking, instructive, persistence enhancer, facilitating learning and reviving
in the mind, by students. In addition, students like using these materials in
piano lessons. According to these results, it can be said that for students who
live in the age of technology, handmade materials, such as rice-filled bottles,
percussions from yoghurt pots, are not sufficient to teach piano playing and
using these handmade materials are not funny, because they are used to play
computer and watch animations (cartoons). As a result, students’ interests and
continuities in piano lessons can be increased by using animation supported
piano teaching method’s materials.
