DEGROWTH AS A NEW PARADIGM IN ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL THEORY

Abstract

During the pandemic, and lockdown being in place, we have been confronted with the fact that we can give up the excessive consumption of many goods and services and adopt a new consumption pattern. The objective of this article is to analyze the theory of degrowth as an alternative for the theory of economic growth which seeks to organize the production process in order to leave a habitable world for future generations. In this context, the politics of degrowth does not solely focus on money but also on ecology, democracy and social justice for the purpose of creating a welfare.

EKONOMİ VE SOSYAL TEORİDE YENİ BİR PARADİGMA OLARAK BÜYÜME-ME

Abstract

Pandemide zorunlu eve kapanma ile deneyimlenen yeni tüketim kalıplarında pek çok mal ve hizmetin aşırı tüketiminden veya tümüyle kendinden vazgeçebildiğimiz gerçeği ile yüzleştik. Bu bağlamda “hangi mal ve hizmetlere daha çok ihtiyacımız var, hangilerinden vazgeçebiliriz” veya yaşam kalitesinden ödün vermeden daha az tüketebileceğimiz mal ve hizmetlerin neler olduğu görüldü. Bu makale gelecek nesillere de yaşanacak bir dünya bırakma perspektifinden bakan bir paradigma olarak büyüme-me teorisini analiz etmiştir. Bu çerçevede büyüme-me teorisine yüklenen siyasi anlamın içinde sadece toplumun ekonomik yaşantısını değiştirmek değil aynı zamanda ekolojiyi, demokrasiyi, sosyal adaleti ve paraya odaklanmayan bir refah anlayışını da savunmak var.
