Böbrek Amiloidozu ve ABO Kan Grubu
Abstract
Background Associations between ABO blood groups and various diseases have been studied for decades, revealing links with malignancies, cardiovascular disorders, and metabolic conditions. However, the relationship between ABO blood group and renal amyloidosis has not been investigated.
Objective To determine the distribution of ABO blood groups in patients with biopsy-confirmed renal amyloidosis and compare it with the general Turkish population.
Methods We analyzed 100 patients diagnosed with renal amyloidosis by kidney biopsy at Ankara University Medical School. ABO blood typing was performed in the university or Red Crescent blood centers. As a control, we used published ABO distribution data from 201,317 Turkish blood donors.
Results Among renal amyloidosis patients, blood group O was present in 61%, A in 26%, B in 8%, and AB in 5%. In the general population, the distribution is O 33.01%, A 43.31%, B 16.12%, and AB 7.54%. Statistical comparison using chi-square analysis showed a significantly higher prevalence of blood group O in the amyloidosis cohort (p < 0.001).
Conclusion Blood group O is markedly overrepresented in Turkish patients with renal amyloidosis. This finding supports a potential genetic influence in the etiology of amyloidosis in this population.
