Application and clinical assessment of toggle pin with monofilament nylon sutur material fortreatment of coxofemoral joint luxation in dog and cat
Abstract
In this study, we intended to evaluate clinical and radiographical results of monofilament nylon fishing line usage in intra-articular stabilization of hip joint via toggle pin technique. Toggle pin technique for treatment of coxofemoral luxations generally results in early functional recovery of the extremity. Fourteen dogs and 11 cats were referred to our clinic with hind limb lameness constituted cases of our study. After treatment of caudoventral luxations in a cat and a dog, and of craniodorsal luxations in remaining cases, results of treatment of cases were satisfactory, except for two cases, one had fracture of femoral head and other had osteomyelitis at the operation site. In conclusion, intra-articular application of monofilament nylon fishing line which has been used in extra-articular stabilization of joint is convenient because of strength of repaired joint stability and no body reaction against suture material had been observed in postoperative clinical and radiographical examinations
