First molecular detection of Nosema ceranae in Turkey
Abstract
Nosema ceranae is an important microsporidian parasite of European honey bees (Apis mellifera). To date there is no information about the presence of N. ceranae in Turkey. Nosema sp. was microscopically diagnosed in two bee colonies that were sent to our laboratory in the years 2007 and 2008. Positive samples were tested to detect the Nosema species using previously developed spesific PCR primers. As a result of our study we molecularly detected N. ceranae in Turkey for the first time.
