Origin, course and branching of the external ophthalmic artery in English horse

Abstract

The aim ol' this study was to establish the differences of the exteıııal ophtalmic artery which provided the vascularization of the eyebalı in English horse. Four adult male English horse were used in this study. It was found that the common branch
of lacrimal and supraorbital artery exits I'rom dil'l'erent spots on external ophtalmic artery. Anastomatic branch that takes place
between internal and external ophtalmic artery was shown in all matcrials except one samples. In that sample this anastomotic branch
could not be observed on the left side. The dorsal al1terior ciliar artery was divided usually il1to two branches while it was gaven three
branches in first material and five branches in fourth materiai. Although there was no age or gender differences in the samples, variations of vascularization of the eyebalı was noted.
