Maedi-visna virus infection in sheep belongs to public

Abstract

In this study, It was purposed detecting of pres ence and seroprevalence of maedi-visna virus infection of sheep İn private Ilocks in different area of Turkey. For this aim, blood sera from 825 sheep in private flocks which belongs to public in 8 different province/area of Turkey were tested for antibodies against maedi-visna virus using agar gel immunodiffusion technique. In the resıilt of serological control, 22 sheep (2.6%) from 825 were found specific nötralisation antibody against maedi-visna infection. In 6 of 9 prİvate flocks controlled, infection was detected. Seroprevalence value varied between 1-ı0% in these flocks. On the basis of results it is suggested that infection was spreading in smail private f1ocks. Furthermore, recommendation to the control of maedi-visna infection were presented.
