Sağlıklı Beslenmeden Psikopatolojiye: Ortoreksiya Nervoza

Abstract

Ortoreksiya Nervoza (ON), "saf" ya da sağlıklı beslenmeye aşırı düzeyde önem verilmesi ve bu nedenle bireylerin psikolojik ve fiziksel sağlıklarının olumsuz etkilendiği bir sağlık sorunudur. ON, özellikle son zamanlarda klinik psikoloji alanında ilgi duyulan bir kavram olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Alan yazın incelendiğinde, bilimsel çalışmalarda ilgi gören bir kavram olmasına rağmen tanı ölçütleri, kategorik sınıflandırması ve semptomatolojisi hakkında ortak bir fikir birliğinin henüz olmadığı görülmektedir. Bu derleme çalışması, ON’nin ortaya çıkışını, tarihsel gelişim sürecini, diğer psikolojik bozukluklar ile ilişkisini, ilişkili olduğu düşünülen çeşitli faktörleri ele alarak ON’nin kapsamlı bir şekilde anlaşılmasını amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmalarda ON’nin yeme bozuklukları ve ObsesifKompulsif Bozuklukla (OKB) benzerlikleri vurgulanmakla birlikte, özellikle yeme bozuklukları spektrumuna daha yakın olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Öte yandan, ON’nin doğru tanımlanması ve değerlendirilmesi amacıyla geliştirilen ölçüm araçlarının birçoğunun farklı sınırlılıklar taşıdığı görülmektedir. Ayrıca, bireysel etmenlerin yanı sıra kültürel etmenlerin ve sosyal medyanın da ON gelişiminde önemli bir rolü olduğu dikkati çekmektedir. Bu bağlamda, kavramsallaştırma süreci devam eden ON’nin hem bireysel deneyimleri hem de kültürel bağlamı içerecek şekilde çok boyutlu bir yaklaşımla değerlendirilmesi kavramsal çerçevenin daha sağlıklı bir şekilde kurulmasına katkı sağlayabilmektedir. Son olarak, mevcut çalışma ON'nin psikolojik ve fiziksel sağlık üzerindeki olumsuz etkileri göz önünde bulundurulduğunda, risk altındaki bireylerin belirlenmesi ve uygun müdahalelerin geliştirilmesinin önemini ortaya koymaktadır.

From Healthy Eating to Psychopathology: Orthorexia Nervosa

Abstract

Ortoreksiya Nervoza (ON), "saf" ya da sağlıklı beslenmeye aşırı düzeyde önem verilmesi ve bu nedenle bireylerin psikolojik ve fiziksel sağlıklarının olumsuz etkilendiği bir sağlık sorunudur. ON, özellikle son zamanlarda klinik psikoloji alanında ilgi duyulan bir kavram olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Alan yazın incelendiğinde, bilimsel çalışmalarda ilgi gören bir kavram olmasına rağmen tanı ölçütleri, kategorik sınıflandırması ve semptomatolojisi hakkında ortak bir fikir birliğinin henüz olmadığı görülmektedir. Bu derleme çalışması, ON’nin ortaya çıkışını, tarihsel gelişim sürecini, diğer psikolojik bozukluklar ile ilişkisini,
ilişkili olduğu düşünülen çeşitli faktörleri ele alarak ON’nin kapsamlı bir şekilde anlaşılmasını amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmalarda ON’nin yeme bozuklukları ve ObsesifKompulsif Bozuklukla (OKB) benzerlikleri vurgulanmakla birlikte, özellikle yeme bozuklukları spektrumuna daha yakın olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Öte yandan, ON’nin doğru tanımlanması ve değerlendirilmesi amacıyla geliştirilen ölçüm araçlarının birçoğunun farklı sınırlılıklar taşıdığı görülmektedir. Ayrıca, bireysel etmenlerin yanı sıra kültürel etmenlerin ve sosyal medyanın da ON gelişiminde önemli bir rolü olduğu dikkati çekmektedir. Bu bağlamda, kavramsallaştırma süreci devam eden ON’nin hem bireysel deneyimleri hem de kültürel bağlamı içerecek şekilde çok boyutlu bir yaklaşımla değerlendirilmesi kavramsal çerçevenin daha sağlıklı bir şekilde kurulmasına katkı sağlayabilmektedir. Son olarak, mevcut çalışma ON'nin psikolojik ve fiziksel sağlık üzerindeki olumsuz etkileri göz önünde bulundurulduğunda, risk altındaki bireylerin
belirlenmesi ve uygun müdahalelerin geliştirilmesinin önemini ortaya koymaktadır.
