ARTICLE TYPES
Within the scope of the AYNA Clinical Psychology Journal, the following types of articles are accepted: theoretical reviews (preferably supported by case studies), research articles, reviews of works (such as films, books, music, theatre, etc.), and case presentations.
In addition to international literature, articles submitted to our journal are encouraged to review national literature related to the topic. In this regard, it is also recommended to examine previous issues of the AYNA Clinical Psychology Journal.
Manuscripts submitted for evaluation must be prepared in accordance with the following structure.
1. Theoretical Review: These articles are literature reviews within the framework of psychological theories from all fields of psychology that contribute to the study and practice of clinical psychology. It is preferable that the articles are supported by case presentations.
2. Research Article: These are articles conducted with quantitative or qualitative research methods, including sections such as literature review, the aim and importance of the study, methodology, findings, and discussion.
3. Work Review: These are articles that analyze works such as films, books, music, theatre, etc., within the framework of psychological theories.
4. Case Presentation: These are articles presenting clinical cases that include the psychotherapy process, case characteristics, and clinical recommendations. It is advised that the demographic and identifying information of the case be altered before presentation.
ARTICLE WRITING FORMAT
The full manuscript should consist of the following sections:
1. Cover Page
2. Full Manuscript
a. Abstract (in English and Turkish) and Keywords
b. Main Text
c. Tables and Figures
ç. References
d. Extended Abstract in English/Turkish
The required structure for each section is outlined below:
1. Cover Page: Should include a short title, main title, and author and institutional information. Authors' full names must be presented each on a separate line, followed by their institutional affiliations (e.g., Middle East Technical University, Department of Psychology, Ankara, Turkey). Shared institutions should be indicated with superscript numbers (1) and presented concisely. The corresponding author should be marked with an asterisk (*) and specified as “corresponding author e-mail: ….” below. All this information should be centered on the page and capitalized appropriately. The title should summarize the main topic of the study. The short title must be under 50 characters and appear in uppercase in the top left corner of every page.
* The cover page must be submitted as a SEPARATE Word file from the full manuscript.
2. Full Manuscript:
a. Abstract and Keywords: The abstract (both in English and Turkish) should be between 150-250 words, written in 8-point font with single line spacing. Turkish articles should begin with the “Öz” heading, while English articles should begin with “Abstract.” You must use the template that matches the language of your article. Keywords should be written in all lowercase (unless proper nouns) and include a maximum of 5 keywords. The abstract should briefly present the aim of the study, variables or relationships examined (if any), brief participant details, methodology, and key findings. No information not included in the main text or citations from other sources should appear in the abstract.
b. Main Text: Starts on a new page and includes the article’s title in the appropriate language. Excluding references, the manuscript should not exceed 10,000 words. The text should be written in 11-point Georgia font, with 1.5 line spacing. Headings and subheadings should follow the levels defined in APA 7 style.
c. Tables and Figures: If included, each should be numbered accordingly in the text and follow APA 7 format.
ç. References: At the end of the manuscript (and before any appendices, if present), all cited sources must be listed alphabetically by the authors’ last names. The reference list should use 10-point font with single line spacing.
d. Extended Abstract in Turkish: At the end of the manuscript, on a new page, an extended abstract of 500–700 words should be provided. For articles in English, the extended abstract should be in Turkish. Below the heading “Özet,” the article’s title in Turkish should also be included.
Note: Submit your manuscript using the article templates found in the "Forms" tab on our journal's homepage. Make sure you choose the template that suits the language of your article.
CITATION AND REFERENCE RULES ACCORDING TO APA 7 GUIDELINES
References should be included at the very end of the main text, on a separate page. The responsibility for ensuring that all in-text citations have a corresponding entry in the reference list lies with the author(s). Additionally, authors are expected to follow citation, referencing, and in-text citation rules according to the language of the manuscript. These rules are explained in detail and exemplified below. For more information, visit:
https://apastyle.apa.org/
1. In-Text Citations
According to APA, sources can be cited in three ways: direct quotation, block quotation, and paraphrasing. In all three methods, the author's name and publication year should be given in parentheses.
Direct Quotation: Citations of fewer than 40 words are considered direct quotations. These are embedded in the text and enclosed in quotation marks. The author's name, year, and page number must be included. If the quoted text is just on one page it can be written as (p. 53) while quotations that are on multiple pages should be written as (pp. 34–36)
Block Quotation: Citations longer than 40 words should be formatted as block quotes without quotation marks. They must include the author's name, year, and page number. The same formatting applies for page references as noted above. If the quoted text is just on one page it can be written as (p. 53) while quotations that are on multiple pages should be written as (pp. 34–36)
Paraphrasing: This involves the author of the manuscript expressing the ideas of the cited source using their own words, while indicating the original author and year in parentheses.
1.1. Indicating Cited Sources in the Text
The way cited sources are indicated within the text may vary depending on the number of authors, surnames, and publication dates. Examples are provided below.
Important Note: If a citation is placed at the end of a sentence in parentheses, the final punctuation mark (.) must be placed after the closing parenthesis.
1.1.1. In-Text Citation in English-Language Manuscripts and Abstracts
• Single author:
Becker (2013) .............................. .
According to Becker (2013) ......... .
............................... (Becker, 2013).
• Two authors
Becker and Rinck (2013) ................................ .
Becker and Rinck (2013) suggested that ......... .
.................................... (Becker & Rinck, 2013).
• Three or more authors
Use "et al." from the first citation.
Example: (Wiley et al., 2012)............................... (Wiley et al., 2012).
Wilet et al. (2012) suggested that ......... .
• Citing Sources with Overlapping Authors: If most or all of the authors of two different sources are the same, cite enough authors to indicate that the two studies are different. For example, if one of the cited sources has authors Becker, Wiley, Spira, Bradle, McDermott, and Grenn, and the other has authors Becker, Spira, Wiley, Bradley, Green, and McDermott, the two sources are cited as follows:
Becker, Wiley, Spira et al (2012) ............. .
Becker, Wiley Bradley, et al (2012) ......... .
• More than one work by the same author with the same date: In order to distinguish such works from each other, a letter is added to the works in alphabetical order.
......... (Spira, 2012a).
......... (Spira, 2012b).
• Studies with multiple authors bearing the same surname: If two authors have the same surname even if their publication years are different, the initials of the authors' first names are also written.
F. Green (2011) ......... .
A. Green (2013) ......... .
• Citing works by multiple authors with the same surname simultaneously: If a work has co-authors and if any of the authors have the same surname, the initials of the authors with common surnames are written.
...... (C. Smith, 2002; J. A. Smith, 2004).
• Citing more than one publication at a time: If studies by different authors are cited in the same sentence, the author surnames are written in alphabetical order and separated by a semicolon.
......... (Arow, 2011; Smith, 1998; White, 2001).
• Highlighting a publication when citing multiple publications simultaneously: To highlight a citation directly related to the article among the citations, list the cited work first. Other works are preceded by the phrase "see also."
......... (Smith, 1998; see also Arow, 2011; White, 2001).
• Translated sources: When citing translated sources within the text, both the original publication date and the translation date are written, starting with the original publication date of the text.
Freud (1900/1953) ......... .
......... (Piaget, 1966/2000).
• Quoting a Secondary Source: When quoting a secondary source, the primary source is cited in the text or in parentheses. Only the secondary source is listed in the bibliography of the article.
Lacan stated that (as cited in Evans, 1966) the fantasy is always 'an image set to work in signifying structure'.
.............................................................................................................. (Lacan, 1956, as cited in Evans, 1966).
• Studies where the date of the cited source is unknown: When citing in the text, "n.d." is written in the section where the year of the source is given, meaning "no date".
............................... (John, n.d.).
According to John (n.d.) ......... .
2. References Section
Except for personal communications, all cited sources must appear in the reference list in alphabetical order. The formatting differs based on source type (book, article, etc.). Be attentive to details such as capitalization, italics, and page numbers. Personal communication is cited only in-text (e.g., Clark, personal communication, May 12, 2009).
2.1. General Rules
• If the author is unknown, the title of the work is included in the reference list in alphabetical order, replacing the author's name.
• If there are twenty or fewer authors, all author names are listed.
• If there are twenty or more authors, the first nineteen authors are listed, followed by three periods, and the last author's name is added.
