Evaluation of Conceptual Art Works Within the Scope of Social and Humanities Publication Ethics

Abstract

The research aims to investigate the ethical obligations that may arise in the production of conceptual art practices and to evaluate the principles and rules of publication ethics that can be applied in conceptual art. Emerging in the 1960s, “Conceptual Art” constituted one of the most fundamental breaks of the twentieth century by focusing on layers of ideas, language, and discourse rather than the material object of art. As art practices that emerge by shifting focus from visual representation to thought, conceptual art is often realized in public spaces such as squares, parks, public transportation, or streets. These spaces are accessible to everyone and require consideration of societal values, censorship, and intervention. It is imperative that special precautions be taken in research involving sensitive communities, such as disadvantaged groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with special needs. At this point, the concept of ethics, which shapes good-bad, right-wrong behaviors regarding how we should live and presents us with what is good for the social structure, has an important place in conceptual art, just as it does in the social and human sciences. Among conceptual artworks, data obtained during stages that require collecting data from society and individuals must be presented accurately, reliably, and transparently. It is crucial that data obtained in artistic works is not altered or presented in a misleading, biased, or incomplete manner. This research is a qualitative study created using document analysis methods, whose validity and reliability have been determined by interdisciplinary themes, and findings and conclusions have been reached by researchers without relying on any personal interpretation.

Kavramsal Sanat Çalışmalarının Sosyal ve Beşeri Bilimler Yayın Etiği Kapsamında Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Araştırma, kavramsal sanat pratiklerinin üretiminde doğabilecek etik yükümlülükleri araştırmayı ve kavramsal sanatta uygulanabilecek yayın etiği ilkelerini ve kurallarını değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. 1960’lı yıllarda ortaya çıkan “Kavramsal Sanat”, sanatın maddi nesnesinden çok fikir, dil ve söylem katmanlarını merkeze almasıyla yirminci yüzyılın en temel kırılmalarından birini oluşturmuştur. Görüntü temsilinden sıyrılarak düşüncenin odağa alındığı sanat pratikleri olarak karşımıza çıkan kavramsal sanatın gerçekleştirildiği meydanlar, parklar, toplu taşıma ya da sokaklar gibi kamusal alanlar herkesin erişimine açık, toplumun değerlerinin, sansür ve müdahalenin göz önünde bulundurulması gereken alanlardır. Bilhassa çocuklar, yaşlılar, özel gereksinimli bireylerin de içinde bulunduğu dezavantajlı gruplar gibi hassas topluluklarla yapılan araştırmalarda özel önlemlerin alınması kaçınılmazdır. Bu noktada, nasıl yaşamamız gerektiği konusunda iyi-kötü, doğru-yanlış davranışları şekillendiren, toplumsal yapı için iyi olanı bizlere sunan etik olgusu tıpkı sosyal ve beşerî bilimler alanında olduğu gibi kavramsal sanat alanında da önemli bir yere sahiptir. Kavramsal sanat eserleri arasından özellikle toplumdan ve bireyden veri toplamayı gerektiren aşamalarda elde edilen verilerin doğru, güvenilir ve açık bir biçimde sunulması gerekmektedir. Sanatsal çalışmalarda elde edilen verilerin değiştirilmemesi veya yanıltıcı/taraflı/eksik şekilde ifade edilmemesi oldukça önemlidir. Bu araştırma belge analiz yöntemiyle oluşturulan nitel bir araştırma olup, geçerliği ve güvenirliği disiplinler arası temalarla belirlenmiş, araştırmacılar tarafından herhangi bir kişisel yoruma dayandırılmadan bulgular ve sonuçlara ulaşılmıştır.
