Süs Fındıkları ve Islahı

Abstract

Corylus cinsi, kültür fındığı yanında kuzey yarı kürenin ılıman iklim bölgelerinde (Japonya, Kore, Çin, Tibet, Hindistan, Kuzey İran, Türkiye, Kafkaslar, Avrupa’nın büyük kısmı ve Kuzey Amerika kıtası) yer alan çok sayıda yabani türü içermektedir. Fındığın yabani türleri ve bazı kültür formları parklarda ve bahçelerde estetik ve fonksiyonel amaçlarla süs bitkisi olarak kullanılmaktadır. Bunlar arasında dip sürgünü vermeyen ve tek gövde oluşturan C.colurna ve C.chinensis, gövde kabuğu soyulan C.fargesi, çotanakları kestane gibi ince-kırmızı-çok dikenli C.ferox, sonbaharda kırmızı-portakal renkli yaprakları olan C.americana gibi türler bulunmaktadır. Kültür fındığı olan C.avellana içinde kırmızı-mor yapraklı fındık (Fusco Rubra), sarı yapraklı fındık (Aurea), bükük (burgulu) dallı-yeşil/mor yapraklı fındık (Contorta), sarkık dallı fındık (Pendula), derin-loblu yapraklı fındık (Cutleaf) varyeteleri bulunmaktadır. Uzun yıllardır bilinen süs formları yanında son yıllarda ıslah çalışmalarıyla bazı yeni süs fındığı çeşitleri de geliştirilmiştir. Bu çalışmada, farklı dal tipleri ile yaprak şekil-renk kombinasyonlarını ve hastalığa dayanıklılığı bir araya getiren ıslah çalışmaları, ıslah yöntemi ve tescil edilen çeşitler incelenmiştir.

Ornamental Hazelnuts and Breeding

Abstract

The Corylus genus includes many wild species found in temperate climate regions of the northern hemisphere (Japan, Korea, China, Tibet, India, Northern Iran, Turkey, the Caucasus, most of Europe and the North American continent), as well as cultivated hazelnuts. Some cultivated forms and genotypes of wild species are appreciated as ornamental plants in parks and gardens for aesthetic and functional purposes. These include C.colurna and C.chinensis, which have single trunk with no sucker formation, C.fargesi with peeling bark, C.ferox with chestnut like clusters carrying thin-red spines, and C.americana with red-orange leaves in fall. The cultivated hazelnut C.avellana includes varieties of Fusco Rubra with red-purple-leaves, Aurea with yellow leaves, Contorta with twisted branches and green/purple leaves, Pendula with drooping branches, and Cutleaf with deeply lobed leaves. In addition to the ornamental forms known for many years, some new varieties have been developed in recent years through breeding studies. In this study, breeding studies that combine different branch types, leaf shapes, leaf colors and disease resistance, breeding methods and released ornamental varieties are reviewed.
