Doğum Yapmış ve Yapmamış Kadınlar Arasında Genital Öz İmaj, Kozmetik Cerrahi Kabulü ve Cinsel Yaşam Kalitesi Arasındaki İlişki: Karşılaştırmalı Bir Çalışma

Year 2025, Volume: 14 Issue: 3, 761 - 771, 31.10.2025

Abstract

The relationship Between Genital Self-image, Acceptance of Cosmetic Surgery, and Quality of Sexual Life Among Women Who Have Given Birth and Those Who Have Not: A Comparative Study

Year 2025, Volume: 14 Issue: 3, 761 - 771, 31.10.2025

Abstract

Objective: In this study, it was aimed to compare the genital self-image, acceptance of plastic surgery and quality of sexual life of women who gave birth and women who did not give birth. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional and comparative study was conducted between September 30, 2024, and February 10, 2025, through an online survey distributed via social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, Telegram, etc.) and forums. A total of 298 women voluntarily participated in the study, including 153 who had given birth and 145 who had not. The study utilized a Personal Information Form, the Genital Self-Image Scale (GSIS), the Sexual Quality of Life-Female (SQoL-F), and the Acceptance of Cosmetic Surgery Scale (ACSS). Results: The GSIS, SQoL-F, and ACSS mean scores for women who had given birth were 21.38±4.28, 77.92±20.72, and 54.49±23.29, respectively, whereas the mean scores for those who had not given birth were 21.39±4.08, 83.04±19.82, and 54.10±19.70, respectively. Women who had given birth had significantly higher ACSS scores compared to those who had not (p=0.007). No statistically significant correlation was found between genital self-image (GSI) and sexual quality of life (SQoL) (r=-0.011) or acceptance of cosmetic surgery (r=0.029) among women who had given birth (p>0.05). Similarly, no statistically significant correlation was found between GSIS and SQoL-F (r=-0.132) or acceptance of cosmetic surgery (r=0.164) among women who had not given birth (p>0.05). Conclusion: The experience of childbirth does not significantly influence women's of their GSIS, SQoL-F, or attitudes toward cosmetic surgery. Therefore, it is essential that nurses specializing in women's health and diseases routinely assess these perceptions in all women, irrespective of their childbirth history. Nursing care should be planned, implemented, and evaluated with a comprehensive approach that considers these psychosocial dimensions, regardless of whether the individual has given birth.
