Müsâmeret-nâme is one of the important works in the story genre of Tanzimat Literature. The book was written by Emin Nihat Efendi in the years between 1871-1875 and consists of 7 stories. While Müsâmeret-nâme, takes its subject matter from daily stories, it chooses its heroes and heroines from ordinary people. Müsâmeret-nâme, which carries traces of old stories in terms of fiction and narration, almost winks at the modern story with its realist point of view. In the work, which has transitional features, the wide geography of the empire is used as a place and even goes out of the country in some stories.
Bosnia is the subject of the second story of Müsâmeret-nâme, “Kapı Kethüdası Behçet Efendi ile Makbule Hanım’ın Sergüzeşti”. Some of the events in the story take place in Bosnia. Bosnia is introduced in this story as one of the most distant cities of the Ottoman Empire. In addition to its distance, this town is a negative place in that it is the foreign and also it separates lovers. However, the subject we want to focus on in our study is Bosnia in the 1870s. The political and social situation of Bosnia, its various institutions, especially the customs organization, its life, place names, and the thoughts of the hero about Bosnia will be discussed.
