Balkanlar’dan Doğan Bir Yaklaşım Yabancılara Türkçe Öğretiminde Fonetik-Fonolojik Uygulama Önerisi: Verbotonal Yöntem

Abstract

Yabancılara Türkçe öğretiminde (YTÖ) telaffuz ve bürünsel özellikler, iletişim becerisinin temel bileşeni sayılmasına karşın öğretim programlarında çoğunlukla ikincil bir konumda ele alınmaktadır. Türkçenin sekiz ünlülü sistemi, ünlü uyumu, ˂ğ˃ yazıbirimi ve göreli olarak esnek sözcük vurgusu, yabancı öğrenicilerde tutarlı hata örüntüleri oluşturmakta; mevcut öğretim materyallerinin prozodi öğretimindeki yetersizliği de bu güçlükleri derinleştirmektedir. Oysa doğru bir işitsel algı, dil üretiminin temelini oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Petar Guberina ve Zagreb Ekolü tarafından geliştirilen verbotonal yöntemin YTÖ bağlamında, özellikle A1 ve A2 düzeyinde, telaffuz ve bürün öğretiminde kullanım olanakları kuramsal açıdan değerlendirilmektedir. Verbotonal yöntemin kuramsal temelleri, düzeltici optimaller, işitsel filtreler, ritim-tonlama çalışmaları ve makro-ritmik vücut hareketleri bileşenleri; Türkçenin fonetik-fonolojik yapısına uyarlanabilirlik açısından çözümlenmiştir. Bulgular, verbotonal yöntemin Türkçeye özgü sesletim güçlükleri için sistematik bir müdahale çerçevesi sunduğunu, iletişimsel yaklaşımın prozodi boşluğunu ve işitsel-dilsel yöntemin anlamsızlık eleştirisini aynı anda karşılayabildiğini göstermektedir. Çalışma, A1–A2 düzeyinde uygulanabilir somut etkinlik örnekleri ve gelecek deneysel araştırmalar için kuramsal zemin ortaya koymaktadır. Çalışmada, “yanlış duyduğumuz için yanlış telaffuz ediyoruz” ilkesinden hareketle, Türkçenin prosodik (bürünsel) ve segmental özelliklerinin öğretiminde bedensel ritim, tonlama ve optimal frekansların nasıl kullanılabileceği tartışılmaktadır.

A Phonetic-Phonological Approach Proposal for Teaching Turkish to Foreigners: The Verbotonal Method, Originating in the Balkans

Abstract

Although pronunciation and prosodic features are considered fundamental components of communicative competence in teaching Turkish as a foreign language (TTFL), they are predominantly treated as secondary concerns in educational curricula. The eight-vowel system of Turkish, vowel harmony, the grapheme ˂ğ˃, and relatively flexible word stress generate consistent error patterns among foreign learners; the inadequacy of current teaching materials regarding prosody instruction further exacerbates these difficulties. However, accurate auditory perception forms the foundation of language production. In this study, the potential applications of the verbotonal method, developed by Petar Guberina and the Zagreb School, in teaching pronunciation and prosody within the context of TTFL—particularly at the A1 and A2 proficiency levels—are evaluated from a theoretical perspective. The theoretical foundations of the verbotonal method, along with its components of corrective optimals, auditory filters, rhythm-intonation exercises, and macro-rhythmic body movements, are analyzed in terms of their adaptability to the phonetic and phonological structure of Turkish. The findings indicate that the verbotonal method provides a systematic intervention framework for pronunciation difficulties specific to Turkish, simultaneously addressing the prosody gap inherent in the communicative approach and the meaning-deficit criticism associated with the audio-lingual method. The study presents concrete activity examples applicable at the A1–A2 levels and establishes a theoretical groundwork for future empirical research. Based on the principle that “we mispronounce because we mishear,” the study discusses how bodily rhythm, intonation, and optimal frequencies can be utilized in teaching the prosodic and segmental features of Turkish.
