It was determined that Melanophila picta (Pall.) is one of the most important pests of poplar nurseries in Kızılırmak, Çankırı (630 m). According to the obtained results, it was determined that the adults emerge from the seedlings at late May when the temperature reaches an average of 19°C; peak emergences have been completed in two weeks. Although adults were found in nature for about 7 weeks, death ratios of adults in June and mid July were 36% and 64% respectively. It was also determined that oviposition began three weeks after emergence and the pest had only one generation per year. It was concluded after this study that, the most ensuring method is to breed poplar trees at the most favorable conditions for growth, although chemical control measures against the pest are also possible.
