Abstract

William of Malmesbury, who is thought to be the most talented person in English historiography after Bede, is one of the must-known people for medieval history researchers. William of Malmesbury is one of the best English history writers of the 12th century. Recently, the increasing interest in medieval European history in our country has necessitated the recognition of the main sources and historians of the period. Especially in the transition period from Anlo-Saxon England to Anglo-Norman England, it will be difficult to understand the history of administration and church without William of Malmesbury. In our study, William of Malmesbury and his works Gesta Regum Anglorum (GR-Deeds of the Kings of the English), Gesta Pontificum Anglorum (GP-Deeds of the English Bishops) and Historia Novella (HN-The Contemporary History) are examined. In this study, it is intended to make William of Malmesbury known in our country, who wrote the works that will be the main source for researchers studying the history of Medieval England. Looking at Anglo-Norman England from William's perspective will open new horizons for historians.

Abstract

Çalışmamızda Malmesbury’li William ve eserlerinden öne çıkan Gesta Regum Anglorum (GR-Deeds of the Kings of the English/ İngiliz Krallarının Tarihi), Gesta Pontificum Anglorum (GP-Deeds of the English Bishops/ İngiliz Piskoposlarının Tarihi), Historia Novella (HN-The Contemporary History/ Çağdaş Tarih) ele alınarak incelenmiştir. Bu çalışmada, Orta Çağ İngiltere tarihini çalışan araştırmacılara temel kaynak olacak eserleri kaleme alan Malmesburyli William’ın ülkemizde de tanınır olması amaçlanmıştır. Anglo-Norman İngiltere’sine William’ın penceresinden bakmak tarihçilere yeni ufuklar açacaktır.
