The aim of this study was determined as comparing candidate teachers’ metacognitive awareness levels according to variables of gender, academic achievement, department and class level. The sample was composed 953 (683 women, 271 men) candidate teachers who were students in a state-owned university. The data of the study were gathered with Metacognitive Awareness Inventory developed. In the direction of the research purpose arithmetic mean and standard deviation were used to determine distributions. T test and variance analysis were used to determine the difference according to variables. The study showed that there were no significant differences between candidate teachers' metacognitive awareness level according to gender and class grade. However, there were significant differences between groups according to department and academic achievement. Besides, according to department, there were significantly differences in the sub-dimensions procedural knowledge, monitoring against science teaching.
