Abstract
Bu çalışma, Başbakanlık Osmanlı Arşivi Hariciye Nezareti Hariciye Siyasi Kısım’da yer alan 207/30, 207/36, 207/51, 208/9, 209/5, 210/15 nolu belgelerden hareketle 1862-1867 yılları arasında Balkanlarda İngiliz misyonerlerinin yürüttüğü faaliyetlerin mahiyetini ortaya koymaktadır. Bu çerçevede Osmanlı topraklarındaki misyonerlik faaliyetlerinin Osmanlı gayrimüslim toplulukları üzerindeki etkisini ve Osmanlı Devleti’nin parçalanmasındaki rolünü açıklamaya çalışmaktadır. Diğer taraftan 19. yüzyıl ortalarında yoğunlaşan Protestan misyoner çalışmalarının batı kamuoyunda Türk aleyhtarlığının gelişmesine ve Osmanlı-İngiliz ilişkilerine etkisini ortaya koyması açısından da dikkate değerdir
Abstract
With reference to the documents numbered 207/30, 207/36, 207/51, 208/9, 209/5, 210/15 in the Foreign Affairs Section of the Ministery of Foreign Affairs in the Ottoman Archive of the Prime Ministery of the Republic of Turkey, this study reveals the nature of activities of British missionaries between 1862and 1867 in Balkans. Within this framework, this study tries to explain the effect of missionary activities in Ottoman territories on the Ottoman non-Muslims and their role over the destruction of Ottoman Empire. On the other hand, it is also significant that the Protestant missionary activities which intensified in mid-19th century explains the Turkish opposition in West public opinion and their impacts on Ottoman-British relations
