THE EFFECT OF THE TYPES OF ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE ON ORGANIZATIONAL CYNICISM: A FIELD STUDY ON THE HOTELS OF BİTLİS PROVINCE

Abstract

Organizational cynicism is defined as the employees’ disbelief in the decisions of the organization, distrust in their intentions and the belief that the managers do not reflect their real personalities. In organizational decision-making, organizational culture is a significant element as it establishes a framework for the employees, it guides the organizational structure, it connects the employees together around common objectives and enables coordination, it stimulates the work power in parallel with these objectives and facilitates the executive function and it shapes the behaviors of the employees to establish control. Based on the assumption that organizational culture is an important factor in the prevention of cynicism among the employees, we conducted our study through a survey intended for the employees of 3-star and 4-star hotels in Bitlis province. At the end of the study it was concluded that; whereas supportive and innovative organizational cultures influenced organizational cynicism negatively, bureaucratic organizational culture influenced organizational cynicism positively.
