Abstract

With the industrialization process, the production volume has increased on a global scale. With the deepening of commercial and financial globalization, new opportunities have emerged in many economies. However, these developments also bring critical threats such as environmental pollution and climate change. Some measures have been taken in many countries to prevent environmental pollution within the scope of a sustainable environment. Environmental taxes within this scope were put into practice in the Turkish economy in the 1990s. Environmental taxes evaluated within the scope of the Pigouvian tax, according to their activities, started to be taken over energy, transportation, pollution and resource elements. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of environmental taxes and patents on environmental technologies on environmental pollution. CO2 emission was used as an environmental pollution indicator. In the study, the cointegration relationship between environmental taxes, patents on environmental technologies, energy consumption, economic growth and CO2 emissions in terms of the Turkish economy has been examined with annual data for the period 1994-2021. Empirical results show that environmental taxes and patents on environmental technologies reduce CO2 emissions in the long run. On the other hand, it was concluded that energy consumption and economic growth increase CO2 emissions.

Sürdürülebilir Çevre: Çevre Teknolojileri ve Vergileri Kapsamında Ekonometrik Bir İnceleme

Year 2023, Volume: 7 Issue: Prof. Dr. Muammer ERDOĞAN Anısına Kongre Özel Sayısı, 63 - 91, 29.03.2023
