Abstract

islâm astronomi tarihinin en çok tanınan isimlerinden birisi olan Uluğ Bey'in bilimsel faaliyetleri ve onun Semerkand Rasadhânesi'nde meşhur astronomlarla birlikte hazırlamış olduğu Uluğ Bey Zîci, astronomi tarihinin en mühim çalışmalarındandır. Bu ça­lışmada Zic'i hazırlayan Uluğ Bey'in hayatına kısaca değinildikten sonra Zic'in önemine işaret edilmiş ve Osmanlı coğrafyasına girişi anlatılmışta. Daha sonra Zîc'in Arapça ve Türkçe çevirileri üzerin­de durulmuştur. Zic üzerine islâm dünyasında yapılan çeşitli çalış­maların ele alındığı son kısımda yazma halinde bulunan nüshaların bulundukları kütüphaneler de gösterilmiştir. Çalışma Uluğ Bey Zici'nin önemini, yaygınlığını ve farklı ülkelerde üzerine yapılan çe­şitli çalışmaların zenginliğine dikkat çekmektedir.

The Place and Signifîcance of Ulug Bey Zici in the Studies of Ottoman Astronomy

Abstract

Uluğ Bey Zici, prepared by Sultan Uluğ Bey and famous astronomers in Semerkand observatory, is one of the significant works of the history of Islamic astronomy. in this paper, after touching on the life of Uluğ Bey in brief, the importance of Zic and its entering to Ottoman territory is mentioned. Then, it is emphasized on its Arabic and Turkish translations. in the last part that undertakes various works on Zic in Islamic world, it is indicated the libraries having the editions of Zic in the form of handvvritten manuscript. This paper draws attention to the signifîcance of Uluğ Bey Zici, its prevalence and the abundance of various works on this book produced in different countries
