Nursing Care Practice on A Patient With Bipolar Disorder Diagnosis According to Peplau Interpersonal Relations Theory: Case Report

Abstract

Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder that emerges at a young age, becomes chronic, and then results in corruption in social and professional functions. It has been seen that patients with mood disorders experience physical and cognitive abnormalities that impair their ability to function. It is crucial for a person who is diagnosed with bipolar disorder and their family to receive information and care or support according to the individual's needs. According to Peplau, many of the problems of nursing take their source from ''interpersonal relationships'', and in order to solve the problem, nursing interventions should be planned to strengthen the relations. In this case report, the symptoms and coping skills of a patient diagnosed with bipolar disorder who is getting treatment in a psychiatric clinic and the personal nursing process and care are discussed based on Peplau's Interpersonal Relations Theory. With the help of Peplau interpersonal relations theory adaptation, patient care is planned individually and supported in its execution. It has been beneficial in terms of patients being able to make their own decisions, considering options, and taking responsibility for them.

Peplau Kişiler Arası İlişkiler Kuramına Göre Bipolar Bozukluk Tanılı Hastaya Hemşirelik Bakımının Uygulanması: Olgu Sunumu

Abstract

Bipolar bozukluk sıklıkla erken yaşlarda ortaya çıkan, kronikleşen, sosyal ve mesleki işlevsellikte bozulmaya neden olan bir duygudurum bozukluğudur. Duygu durum bozukluğu olan hastaların, işlevlerini yerine getirme yeteneklerini bozan bedensel ve bilişsel anormallikleri yaşadığı görülmektedir. Bipolar bozukluk tanısı almış bireye ve ailesine hastalığa ve tedavisine yönelik bilgilendirmenin yapılması ve bireyin ihtiyaçları doğrultusunda bakım verilmesi ya da destek olunması oldukça önem taşımaktadır. Peplau’a göre hemşireliğe yönelik birçok sorun "kişilerarası ilişkilerden" kaynaklanmaktadır ve problemin çözümlenebilmesi için hemşirelik girişimlerinin iletişimi güçlendirmeye yönelik planlanması ifade edilmektedir. Bu olgu sunumunda, psikiyatri kliniğinde tedavi gören bipolar bozukluk tanılı bir hastanın semptomları ve baş etme becerileri Peplau kişiler arası ilişkiler kuramı temeli ile ele alınarak ve bireysel bir hemşirelik süreci ve bakımı sunulmuştur. Peplau kişiler arası ilişkiler kuramı uyarlaması ile hastanın bakımı birebir planlanmış ve uygulama konusunda destek olunmuştur. Hastanın kendi kararlarını vermesi, seçenekleri değerlendirmesi ve buna yönelik sorumluluk alması konusunda yararlı olmuştur.
