Effects of lead Pb pollution caused by vehicles on the anatomy of pine Pinus nigra Arn. subsp. pallasiana and cedar Cedrus libani A. Rich. leaves

Abstract

In this study, the effects of lead pollution caused by vehicles on the leaf anatomy of pine and cedar trees along ten km highway between Isparta city center and Suleyman Demirel University were investigated. Lead pollution caused of increasing the cuticle thickness in the leaves of both species while it caused of decreasing the leaf diameter, vascular bundle size, tracheid diameter, epidermis cell number and size, stomata number, width and index. On the other hand, the mentioned pollution decreased the stomata length in cedar leaves while it had no effect on this parameter in pine leaves

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, Isparta ili şehir merkezi ile Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi arasındaki 10 km’lik yol boyunca sıralanan çam ve sedir ağaçlarının yaprak anatomileri üzerine taşıtların sebep olduğu kurşun kirliliğinin etkileri araştırılmıştır. Kurşun kirliliği her iki türün yapraklarında kutikula kalınlığını artırırken, yaprak çapı, iletim demeti büyüklüğü, trakeit çapı, epidermis hücre sayısı ve büyüklüğü ile stoma sayısı, eni ve indeksini azaltmıştır. Diğer yandan, söz konusu kirlilik sedir yapraklarında stoma boyunu azaltırken, çam yapraklarında bu parametreler üzerinde etkisiz olmuştur
