Investigations on chemical control of brown rot (<i>Sclerotinia fructigena</i> Aderh et Ruhl.) on cherry fruits
Abstract
The study was carried out in two different locations, Uşak-Banaz in 1997-2000 and Balıkesir-Dursunbey in 1998-1999.
Aims of the study were to determine suitable application programme against brown rot (S. fructigena) on cherry fruits and to detect whether there is residue problem of the fungicide (Benomyl 50WP) on fruits. Following application programmes were tested for their effectiveness.
I. programme: 1. application started from fruits reached chickpea size stage to 15 days before harvest (10-12 days interval). II. programme: 1. application started from fruits reached nut size stage to 15 days before harvest (10-12 days interval). III. programme: As soon as fruits become red only one application made.
Effectiveness of the application programmes were found as 98.7 % for I.programme, 96.98 % for II.programme and 95.47 % for III.programme in 1988, 91.10 %, 96.45 % and 84.34 % respectively, in 2000. According to the results all of the 3 programmes were in the same group statistically. It means they had same effectiveness.
In the study carried out to determine residue level of the first programme, the residue level was 0.245 ppm and the result was above of the tolerance for stone fruits of Turkey and in cherry of EU for benomyl (0.1ppm). There will be a residue problem in case pre-harvest interval is 14 days. On the other hand, the residue level in the third programme was 0.068 ppm and the result was below the tolerans levels for Turkey and EU.
As a result of the study, third programme has been advised for control of the disease, because it was in the same group statistically with others, consist of one application and there was no residue problem.
