Investigation on some biological parameters of Cabbage root fly [Delia radicum (L.) (Dip.:Anthomyiidae)] in two different temperature.

Abstract

Cabbage root fly [Delia radicum (L.)(Dip.:Anthomyiidae)] is the most important pest on the vegetables, which belong to Cruciferae such as cabbage, cauliflower, turnip and radish. It damages on the root of the plant, and particularly, it is caused serious problems on the young plants. In this study it was determined the longevity and fertility of the Cabbage root fly on the piece of Swede at the constant (20°C) and fluctuating (10-30°C) temperatures in laboratory. The average longevity of the males and females were 14.96±1.23 (4-25), 17.44±0.86 (6-24) and 17.64±1.94 (6-34), 20.60±1.60 (7-36) days, and the average fertility of females was 15.16±0.71 (12-24) and 13.84±1.44 (8-32) eggs at the constant and fluctuating temperatures, respectively. The preoviposition period lasted 3 days and the most of eggs of Cabbage root fly were laid on the first 10 days of their life in both conditions.
