Abstract

The infestation rate and severity of damage to seed heads of European Sunflower Moth [Homoeosoma nebulellum (Den. & Schiff.)] (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) were determined in Ankara, Çorum, Yozgat, Afyon and Konya in 2000 and 2001. As a result of this study the infestation rate and severity of damage changed between 0-90% and 0-3.76 respectively. The study on flight activity of the pest by using pheromone traps was carried out in Aktepe, Çaykaya, Keklicek and Çandır villages of Ankara (Kalecik) between 1999-2001. It was determined that moths were trapped from the third week of April until the third week of October during 1999 to 2001. Four moth peak was mostly obtained in this period. It was found out that first generation of the moth completed in the flowers of Senecio vernalis Waldst & Kit., Carduus nutans L.and Onopordum acanthium L at sunflower fields and near the sunflower fields and larvae began to damage to seed heads once there was full blooming and besides the second generation larvae developed at the sunflower plantations. Thus, in this study the biological and phenogical parameters based on its control were obtained. The relationship was not found between numbers of moths in traps and the number of larvae, damaged spots, infestation rate and severity of damage.
