The researches on determination of reaction of some lentil cultivars against soilborn fungal pathogens in Southeast Anatolia Region

Year 2008, Volume: 48 Issue: 3, 33 - 41, 10.11.2009

Abstract

Lentil is one of the economically important major crops growing in a very large area in Southeast Anatolia where the dry agriculture is common. Soilborne fungal diseases are one of the limiting biotic factors which limit lentil production in the region. Soilborne fungal pathogens are the main constraints affecting both yield and quality.  This study was conducted  to determine reaction of some lentil cultivars against soil pathogens, which are commonly found in lentil grown fields. The study carried out in Diyarbakır and Mardin province in 2002-2004.

Under controlled conditions in greenhouse, reactions of six lentil cultivars were tested against two isolates  of Fusarıum oxysporum (A.3.2 and A.3.4) under natural conditions in infected lentil field, these six lentil cultivars were also tested against soilborne fungal pathogen  complex ( Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium solani, Phoma medicaginis var pinodella, Alternari spp, Fusarıum spp.). According to results, reactions of six cultivars in greenhouse and natural conditions were different. The disease severity on cultivars tested under control conditions were between 15.0 - 69.3 % whereas under natural conditions severities were between 10.3 – 47.6 %. In both trials, lentil cultivars cv. Çağıl (F 95-30L), cv. Şakar (BM-76) and cv. Firat-87 were found to be resistant or moderately resistant against tested fungal agents. The other tested cultivars, cv. Yerli kırmızı, cv. Seyran-96 and cv. Siyah çeşit were either susceptible or very susceptible.
