Investigation of antibacterial effect of Satureja cuneifolia Ten. essential oil on some wheat pathogenic bacteria under in invitro conditions

Year 2010, Volume: 50 Issue: 1, 25 - 33, 04.06.2010

Abstract

Various control strategies have been investigated for growing plants which are free of plant diseases and pests in our country as the entire world. One of these strategies is control of diseases and pests by using plant materials and extracts. In this study, the anti-bacterial effects of essential oil of Satureja cuneifolia belonging to Labiatae family were tested in 2004-2005 against the Rathayibacter tritici, R. iranicus, R. rathayi, Pseudomonas syringae pv. atrofaciens and Xanthomonas translucens pv. translucens bacteria caused diseases on wheat plants.

Anti-bacterial effect trials were done according to micro-well diffusion method and inhibition zone diameters formed by essential oils were determined. Inhibition zone diameters ranged from 8 to 32 mm. Yield of essential oil was found 2%. It was determined that the main ingredient of S .cuneifolia essential oil was carvacrol with the rate of 44.99%, p-cymene 21.61%, thymol 9.01% and gamma-terpinene 4.12% in chemical analysis with Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS).

İnvitro koşullarda Satureja cuneifolia Ten. uçucu yağının bazı buğday patojeni bakteriler üzerine antibakteriyel etkisinin araştırılması

Year 2010, Volume: 50 Issue: 1, 25 - 33, 04.06.2010
