Abstract

Year 2024, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 41 - 55, 22.05.2024

Abstract

The aim of this article is to include the rare octobass instrument in the music literature in our country and to ensure its use in orchestras in the future. Since only the octobass instrument was examined in depth in this article, the "purposeful sampling" technique was used and the data was obtained by literature review method. In the history of music, extraordinary instruments have always aroused curiosity and expanded the boundaries of sound. In this context, octobass stands out as a deep-toned and visually striking instrument that pushes the traditional boundaries of music. In this article, the physical properties of the octobass instrument, its sound range, tuning system, mechanism, limitations in playing, its use over the years and their effects on musical dynamics are examined.
