Abstract
Masterson approach is a developmental, self and object relations approach developed by J.F. Masterson for the treatment of disorders of the self. The purpose of this study is to compare the key differences between DSM and Masterson approach in terms of case definitions and other developmental features. Treatment consists of psychodynamic therapy in which therapeutic neutrality and analysis of the transference are core features. A case study is presented to illustrate this approach.
