Personality Traits and Whistleblowing Intention: A Conceptual View with the HEXACO Model

Abstract

The aim of this paper to conceptually examine the relationship between personality traits and internal, and external whistleblowing intentions.
In the study, a literature review was conducted for personality traits and whistleblowing concepts. Personality traits are proposed as one of the reasons why some employees behave differently from others in reporting legal or unethical behavior. Many inventories are used to examine personality traits, and one of them is the six-factor HEXACO model, which differs from the five-factor model with some features.
In the findings of some studies examining the relationship between personality traits and whistleblowing, it has been found that personality traits such as agreeableness, conscientiousness, and extraversion have an effect on whistleblowing intention.

Kişilik Özellikleri ve Whistleblowing Niyeti: HEXACO Modeli ile Kavramsal Bir Bakış

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı kişilik özellikleri ile içsel ve dışsal whistleblowing niyetleri arasındaki ilişkiyi kavramsal olarak incelemektir.
Çalışmada kişilik özellikleri, whistleblowing kavramlarına yönelik literatür taraması yapılmıştır.Kişilik özellikleri bazı çalışanların yasal ya da etik olmayan davranışları ihbar etmede diğerlerinden farklı davranmalarının sebeplerinden birisi olarak gösterilmektedir. Kişilik özelliklerini ölçmek amacıyla birçok envanter kullanılmakla beraber bunlardan birisi de bazı özellikleri ile beş faktör modelinden ayrılan altı faktörlü HEXACO modelidir.
Kişilik özellikleri ve whistleblowing arasındaki ilişkiye yönelik olarak incelenen bazı çalışmaların sonuçlarında uyumluluk, sorumluluk ve dışa dönüklük gibi kişilik özelliklerinin whistleblowing niyeti üzerinde etkisi olduğu bulgulanmıştır.
