Abstract

Acupuncture is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an alternative and complementary strategy in a group of clinical syndromes. Indication list of acupuncture includes chronic pain, migraine, stroke and some other neurological diseases. Meanwhile increasing clinical studies are evidenced the mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of acupuncture in stroke and chronic pain. But in some clinical conditions such as traumatic brain injury and neurogenic bladder methodology of studies are not sufficient as they did not yield the net effect of acupuncture. In conclusion acupuncture could improve clinical outcome in many chronic conditions if it is used as an adjunct to rehabilitation treatment.
