Abstract

The construct “attitude toward seeking professional psychological help” is a central theme in the literature related to psychological help-seeking behaviors. The present study aimed to investigate the attitudes of preservice teachers toward seeking psychological help. Data was collected from 144 university students from the Faculty of Education. Construct was assessed using the abbreviated Turkish form of the scale “Attitudes Toward Seeking Psychological Help (ASPH)”. Differences in levels of attitude towards psychological help with respect to gender, hometown categories (city center, county, town, village), provinces’ development level (operational classification made by SPO (State Planning Organization) and the personal educational history of the students regarding psychological help (course, seminar, conference etc.). A general pattern of reluctance was illustrated. The results and future implications are discussed.
