Synthesis, Structural Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity of Ni(II) Complex from 4,4’-Ethylenedipyridine and Aniline-2,5-Disulfonic acid
Abstract
In this study, the salt {1, (H2edp)(adsa)}, obtained from 4,4’-ethylenedipyridine (edp) and aniline-2,5-disulfonic acid (H2adsa) and new Ni(II) complex {[Ni2(edp)4(H2O)8](adsa)2.3H2O, 2} were synthesized. The complex was defined by using elemental analysis, AAS, IR, UV-Vis, and magnetic susceptibility techniques. In addition, antimicrobial activities of edp, H2adsa, 1, and 2 against Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922), Enterococcus faecalis (ATCC 29212), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 27853), Listeria monocytogenes (ATCC 7644), and Staphylococcus aureus (NRRL-B 767), and Bacillus subtilis bacteria and Candida albicans (F89) yeast were investigated using the microdilution method and compared with existing antibiotics (cefepime, vancomycin, levofloxacin, chloramphenicol, fluconazole, and ketoconazole). As a result of the activity studies, edp for E. coli, edp, H2adsa, and 2 for E. faecalis, edp, H2adsa, 1, and 2 for P. aeruginosa, edp and 2 for L. monocytogenes, H2adsa for S. aureus, edp, H2adsa, and 2 for B. subtilis, and H2adsa for C. albicans have the best activity. As a result, the synthesized compound (2) can be assessed for use in the synthesis of new antibacterial compounds.
