ETHICAL PRINCIPLES AND PUBLICATION POLICY 

The Boğaziçi University Journal of Education follows the publication principles developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Manuscripts must not have been previously published elsewhere or submitted for publication elsewhere. The publication languages of the journal are Turkish and English. The journal adopts the standards prepared by the American Psychological Association (APA) in its publications. Manuscripts that do not comply with APA guidelines will not be taken into consideration for review.

RESEARCH ETHICS 

The Boğaziçi University Journal of Education adopts the guiding principles of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) in the design, conduct, and reporting of research.

• Ethics Committee Approval: For research in which humans and animals are used for experimental or scientific purposes (all quantitative and qualitative research including surveys, interviews, focus groups, etc.), approval must be obtained from the relevant ethics committees. The institution, date, and decision/issue number of the approval must be explicitly stated in the methodology section of the manuscript.
• Informed Consent: In studies conducted with human participants, it must be explicitly stated that informed consent was obtained from the participants on a voluntary basis.
• Data Integrity: It is the authors' responsibility to ensure that all data presented are original and have not been manipulated or distorted. Manuscripts must not have been previously published elsewhere or submitted for publication elsewhere.

PUBLICATION ETHICS

• Authorship Rights: All authors listed in the manuscript must have made a scientifically significant contribution to the research. Unjustified authorship is unacceptable.
• Conflict of Interest: Authors must declare any potential financial or personal conflict of interest that could influence the research.
• Correction and Retraction: Authors are responsible for notifying the editors if they discover errors in their manuscripts/data. Authors are expected to cooperate with the editors in cases of correction (erratum) or retraction of the manuscript.
• Plagiarism Check: In order to protect academic integrity, all manuscripts are screened free of charge via intihal.net. Matches are examined in detail, and the Editorial Board makes the final decision in light of the report. Revisions may be requested, or the manuscript may be rejected outright.

JOURNAL-SPECIFIC ETHICAL POLICY 

The Boğaziçi University Journal of Education continues its publication life with full commitment to the principles of open access and transparency. Our editorial processes are independent; they are not influenced by internal or external commercial concerns or pressure. Discrimination based on factors such as language, religion, race, gender, and institutional affiliation is strictly prohibited in our publication process.

PEER REVIEW DECISIONS, REVISION PROCESSES, AND EDITORIAL INITIATIVE 

As a rule, for a manuscript to be published, it is essential to receive positive decisions ('Accept' or 'Revision') from at least two reviewers. Depending on the differences in the review reports and the scope of the requested revision, the process is carried out as follows:

• Reviewer Disagreement: In the event of a fundamental disagreement between the opinions of the two reviewers (e.g., 1 Accept, 1 Reject), the manuscript is examined by the Editorial Board and sent to a third reviewer, and the final decision is shaped accordingly.
• Major Revision and Re-evaluation Process: When a "Major Revision" requiring fundamental changes to the methodology, findings, or theoretical framework of the study is requested by the reviewers, the revised texts uploaded to the system by the authors are, as a rule, sent back to the relevant reviewer, and a second round of review is initiated. However, in cases requiring re-evaluation due to a major revision or a disagreement between reviewers (e.g., reject/accept), if the relevant reviewer declines the invitation for the second round of review, provides an excuse, or cannot be reached, a new reviewer is appointed to the file by the initiative of the Editorial Board in order not to disrupt the publication process and to complete the scientific evaluation.
• Minor Revision and Editorial Initiative: In cases where a "Minor Revision" decision is made by the reviewers, covering only formal or narrow-scope content corrections, the revision report and the updated text submitted by the author are examined by the Section Editor and the Editor-in-Chief. If the Editorial Board finds the corrections scientifically sufficient in line with the reviewers' recommendations, it has the initiative to accept the manuscript directly for publication without sending it back to the reviewers, unless the reviewers have a specific request to see the file again. This practice aims to publish scientific knowledge effectively and quickly by preventing unnecessary loss of time.

Authors retain the copyright to their article and grant Boğaziçi University Faculty of Education a non‑exclusive licence to publish it. This grant includes the right of first publication and distribution under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY) licence.

Authors also retain all other proprietary rights and may deposit the article’s submitted, accepted, or published versions in institutional repositories, personal websites, or other archives without restriction.
 

Plagiarism Detection

In accordance with its publishing policies, the Bogazici University Journal of Education requires all submitted articles to be screened for plagiarism to ensure academic integrity. Plagiarism detection is performed automatically within the DergiPark system using intihal.net. This process is conducted free of charge; no fees are requested from the author(s).

The matches found in each study after the plagiarism detection are analyzed in detail, and matches with correct references and cross-references are filtered out. In the next step, potential errors in the remaining matches are identified and reported to the Editorial Board. The Board then makes a final decision based on the plagiarism detection report. The author(s) may be asked to correct the issues listed in the report, or the study may be returned to the author(s).
