MARINE MICRO AND MACRO FAUNAS OF HOLOCENE DEPOSITS OF ANADOLU HİSARI (ANATOLIAN CASTLE, BOSPHORUS) AND THE PRESENCE OF XANTHO PORESSA (OLIVI) (Crustacea: Decapoda: XanthIdae)

Abstract

In this study, have been revealed known as recently in Holocene sediments Anadolu Hisarı of Xantho poressa (Olivi) from Crustacea-Decapoda. This crab species is recorded from Mediterranean to Black Sea, and also from the Canary Islands to Portugal in north-eastern Atlantic Ocean. It is generally found at depths between 0 to 15 m in the intertidal and shallow subtidal zones. Broken crab carapaces together with bentic foraminifer, ostracod, bryozoan, pelecipod and gastropod are found in 78 samples collected from different levels of eigth of the cores taken from the basement of Küçüksu Palace at the Anadolu Hisarı. These parts of crab carapaces are determined as belonged to Xantho poressa (Olivi). The 14C numerical age data is fixed as 6.644±48 BP the age of the basement levels of the studied sequence. This crab species and the other fauna assemblages of the Mediterranean and Black Sea origin are shown to live at the same environmental conditions
