Abstract
Two surveys were undertaken under the auspices of M.T.A. to gather information leading to
an understanding of early metallurgical practices in this country (1). The essential goals were to locate
ancient ore sources, investigate ancient copper mines, collect and analyze ancient slag, and to gather
data on the ancient sources of tin. Due to the loftiness of some of our goals, it is not surprizing
that our success in dealing with them was marginal. However, useful information came to light as
a direct result of the surveys, and we now have some important insights into the practice of mining
and metallurgy in early Anatolia.

Abstract
Ülkede yapılmış eski metalurjik faaliyetler konusunu aydınlatmak gayesiyle M.T.A. Enstitüsünün
sağlamış olduğu imkânlarla iki etüt yapılmıştır (1). Bu etütlerin temel amacı, eski cevher kaynaklarının
yerinin saptanması, eski bakır madenlerinin incelenmesi, asırların ürünü olan cüruf yığınlarından
numuneler alınması, ahnan numunelerin analiz edilmesi ve nihayet eski kalay kaynaklan
konusunda gerekli bilgi ve verilerin derlenmesidir. Etütler çerçevesinde güdülen amaçların bazılarının
çok geniş kapsamlı tutulması nedeniyle bu alanda elde edilmiş başarıların kısıtlı olması bizi şaşırtmamalıdır.
Ancak, çalışmalar sonucunda yararlı pek çok sonuç elde edilmiş olup, eski çağlarda
Anadolu'da yapılmış olan madencilik ve metalürji faaliyetlerine, bu sayede değerli ve önemli bir bakış
açısı getirilmiştir.
