Öz

Güneybatı Anadolu'da yer alan Datça yarımadasında, çok genç çökeller içinde, tüf yatakları ile süngertaşı ve lav
parçaları gibi volkanik ürünler saptanmıştır. Petrolojik özellikleri ve bölgesel yayılımları göz önüne alındığında, bu volkanitlerin
olasılıkla 40 000-50 000 yıl kadar önce, yarımadanın yaklaşık 18 km batısındaki Nysiros adasından şiddetli
patlamalarla havadan gelip düşerek yığıştıkları sonucuna varılmıştır. Tamamen volkanik bir ada olan Nysiros adası, Ege
Denizindeki Pliyo-Kuvaterner yaşlı aktif volkanik ada yayının en doğu ucunu oluşturmaktadır. Datça yarımadasındaki
volkanik ürünlerle, Nysiros adasındaki volkanitier tamamen eş petrografik ve kimyasal özellikler göstermekte olup, tipik
kalkalkalin niteliktedirler.

PETROLOGY AND INTERPRETATION OF THE ORIGIN OF QUATERNARY VOLCANICS IN THE DATÇA PENINSULA

Öz

Volcanic materials such as tuffs, pumice and lava fragments are observed in the Late Quaternary sediments occurring in the Datça Peninsula, SW Turkey. The petrological characteristics and regional extents of these volcanic rocks lead to the conclusion that they have aerially transported deposits of powerful volcanic eruptions that took place in the Nysiros island, situated some 18 km. W of the peninsula, probably 40 000-50 000 years ago. The volcanic island of Nysiros forms the easternmost end of an active Plio-Quaternary island arc in the Aegean sea. The volcanic products of the Dat9a Peninsula and the Nysiros volcanic island exhibit identical petrological and geochemical properties and typical calc-alkaline characteristics.
