Abstract

Abstract

One of the bacterial genera that causes the most common and devastating losses among plant bacterial diseases is the group that includes Xanthomonas species. The genus Xanthomonas contains many important species of plant pathogens that affect a wide range of hosts, causing economic damage. Many species are responsible for plant diseases that have a global, economic and environmental impact on the plant, seed and food trade. They cause various disease symptoms such as necrosis, canker, spots and blight on the fruits, leaves and stems of host plants. The genus Xanthomonas is an important genus in terms of phytopathological diversity and phenotypic differences. It has been the subject of extensive taxonomic and scientific studies in terms of the economic damage caused by the loss of quality and productivity in the crop. In this review, the importance of the Xanthomonas genus, its general definition, biology, taxonomy, epidemiology, host-pathogen relationships, diagnostic methods and control possibilities are discussed.
