Development of Qualified Academicians in the Field of Sport Sciences

Abstract

This study analyzes the developmental processes of qualified sports scientists or teaching staff forming the basis of the effective national sport system. Physical education teachers, free time instructor for health and fitness, coaches and sports managers have been educated by sports scientists in higher education system. In the training of qualified scientists and lecturers, qualifications should be determined on the basis of education, research, management and social duties services which are the main activities of the faculty member. Turkey should adapt the higher education system to World and the European Union Standards taking into account the health and physical fitness needs of the society with the General Directorate of Sports and national sports federations.

In conclusion, all kinds of arrangements to be made in the criterias of associate professorship should be made taking into account the effects on the quality of teacher’s the basic activities in the sport sciences. The Council of Interuniversity (UAK) should be rearranged for the requirements for associate professorship applications toward the selection of qualified teaching members. "Commission on scientific journal quality control" can fight against the fake and lower quality journals. Turkey should align its own undergraduate and graduate programs in the field of sport sciences to world and European standards in higher education system with cooperation of national sports federations and authority. Also there is a need to lower the number of these faculties and school of physical education and sports. A central "sports science institute" or “sport university”should be established for quality graduate and postgraduate training at national level.

Spor Bilimleri Alanında Nitelikli Öğretim Üyelerinin Yetiştirilmesi

Öz

Bu çalışma, ulusal etkili spor sisteminin temelini oluşturan nitelikli spor bilimcilerin veya öğretim üyelerinin yetiştirilme süreçlerini analiz etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Beden eğitimi öğretmeni, serbest zaman eğitmeni, antrenör ve spor yöneticilerini spor bilimciler yetiştirmektedir. Nitelikli öğretim üyelerinin yetiştirilmesinde öğretim üyesinin temel etkinlikleri olan eğitim, araştırma, yönetim ve topluma hizmet ekseninde yeterlilikler belirlenmelidir. Türkiye; Yükseköğretim Sistemini Spor Genel Müdürlüğü, ulusal spor federasyonları ile toplumun sağlık ve fiziksel uygunluk ihtiyaçlarını Sağlık Bakanlığı ile işbirliği içerisinde Dünya ve Avrupa Birliği standartlarına uygun hale getirmelidir.

 Sonuç olarak, spor bilimleri alanında doçentlik kriterlerinde yapılacak her türlü düzenleme öğretim üyesinin temel etkinliklerinin kalitesine etkisi dikkate alınarak yapılmalıdır. Üniversitelerarası Kurul (UAK) Doçentlik Başvuru Koşulları, nitelikli öğretim üyelerinin seçimine yönelik yeniden düzenlenmelidir. Sahte ve bilimsel niteliği düşük dergilerle “dergi kalite kontrol komisyonu” ile mücadele edilebilir. Beden eğitimi ve spor bilimleri alanında lisans ve lisansüstü düzeydeki programların, Dünya ve Avrupa Birliği standartları ile uyumlaştırma çalışmaları acilen yapılmalıdır. Mevcut lisans ve lisansüstü eğitim veren yüksekokul ve fakültelerin sayısı azaltılmalıdır. Ulusal düzeyde kaliteli lisans ve lisansüstü eğitim için merkezi “spor bilimleri enstitüsü” veya “spor üniversitesi” kurulmalıdır.
