Determination of the Secondary School Students’ Attitudes with the Course of Physical Education and Sports (Düzce Sample)
Abstract
The objective of this research is to determine the attitudes of the secondary school students’ studying at primary education schools which are in the province of Düzce towards physical education and sports lessons. While the total field under survey consists of the secondary school students’ studying at primary education schools which are in the province of Düzce, the sample group are composed of total 394 volunteer students consisting of 204 boys and 190 girls who are selected randomly among 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. The questionnaire is used as data collection tool. In the first part of the survey demographic characteristics, in the second part of survey physical education and sport attitude scale take place which is revised by Demirhan and Altay (2001). Statistical software SPSS (20) is used in the evaluation of the data obtained and, the level of significance is considered as (p< 0.05). Frequency analysis is applied to determine the demographic characteristic and percentage of the distributions for the responses of participants, in independent groups t-test is applied to comparisons of the genders and attitudes towards physical education classes, one-way analysis of variance is applied to make comparisons for the attitudes of the course of physical education according to variables such as living place, class, age etc, and Scheffer and Games-Howell test is applied to determine the differences stemmed from which group (p< 0.05). According to the one-way analysis of variance results, we can consume that, with the considerance of monthly income of the parents of students and the classes in which the students study in secondary schools, the attitudes of the seventh class girl and boy students are more positive than the attitudes of the sixth class girl and boy students in physical education and sports lesson. The positive attitudes of the students increase in the economically wealthy families. The results of the analysis showed that the attitudes of the students are effected positively whether their parents let them to do sports or not. The students whose family members do sports are more interested in physical education and sports lesson than the others.
