The Relationship Between Women's Perception of Femininity and Health and Their Self-Esteem

Abstract

Aim: The relationship between women's perceptions of femininity and their health and self-esteem was investigated in this study. Method: The study sample consisted of 480 women aged 25-50. Data were collected using the Socio-demographic Information Form, Body Image Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, Perception of Health Scale, Women's Objectification of Women Scale (WOWS). The data obtained in the study were evaluated using Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, factor analysis, Generalize linear mixed models. Results: Cronbach's alpha for WOWS was found to be 0.86. Health perception and its sub factors, body image and self-esteem were important predictors for the women’s objectification of women. The first effect predictor was body image, self-esteem was last effect predictor. Age, marital status, education level, working status, professional, perceived income level, height, weight, chronic illness, health criticized, body image, health perception, self-esteem as individual affected women’s objectification of women. Conclusion: The study offers a new perspective and research direction for the current research background of women’s objectification. The results can be used for further research into the objectification of women by other women and for interventions to improve body image, self-esteem,and health perception.
