Abstract

Objective Headache is a complaint with an increasing rate in pediatric outpatient clinics, and it is more common in adolescence when children can express themselves more easily. In this study, we aimed to examine the incidence of migraine in patients admitted to our outpatient clinic with headache, and the sociodemographic factors and social effects affecting migraine attacks in patients diagnosed with migraine.
Material and Methods: 308 children between the ages of 11-17 who presented to Aksaray Education and Research Hospital Pediatri Outpatient Clinic between October 2018 and December 2019 with headache were included. A mini questionnaire consisting of 15 questions was given to the patients with migraine symptoms to define their headache more easily. The second questionnaire was applied to the patients who were evaluated in the outpatient clinic for the second time and diagnosed with migraine, to define social environmental factors and migraine attacks.
Results: The median age of the patients was 13.7 ± 1.1 years. 127 of these patients (41.2%) were male and 181 (58.8%) were female. Migraine was diagnosed in 26 patients (8.4%) out of 308 patients. When comparing the gender factor and computer use, it was found that there were 4 boys (44.4%) and 1 girl (17.7%) who had long-term computer use before migraine attack (p = 0.043). It was found that there were 6 girls (46.2%) and 1 boy (11.1%) who stated that they had problems with their friends during the day before the attack (p = 0.017).
Conclusion: As a result, it was seen in our study that the more frequent use of technological devices such as mobile phones and long-term computer use in the daily lives of adolescents and children affected migraine attacks.

Aksaray İlindeki Polikiliniğe Baş Ağrısı ile Başvuran Adölesanlarda Migren Prevalansı ve Etki Eden Sosyodemografik Faktörler
