He was born in Istanbul in 1971 and graduated from the History Department of Marmara University Atatürk Faculty of Education in 1994. A year later, he completed his master's degree as a research assistant at the same university's Institute of Turkish Studies and his doctoral studies at Istanbul University Institute of Social Sciences. With a scholarship he received during his doctoral studies, he conducted research related to his field in Scotland and England. He became an associate professor in Modern History in 2011 and a professor in 2017. Between 2019 and 2021, he served as a faculty member and dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Ahmet Yassawi (Yesevi) University in Kazakhstan. In 2007, his article titled “The Dilemma of Bribery and Gift in the Tanzimat Era and Efforts to Prevent Corruption in This Area” won the European Association for Banking and Financial History (European Association for Banking and Financial History), the Prof. Dr. Işın Demirkent History Award in 2009, the award for his work titled Şeyhü’l-Vüzera Koca Hüsrev Paşa -II. Mahmud Devrinin Perde Arkası (The Backstage of the Era of Koca Hüsrev Pasha-II. Mahmud) and in 2023, his work titled Rami Kışlası II. Mahmud Devrinde Aydın-Despotik Modernleşmenin Karargâhı (Rami Barracks: The Headquarters of Enlightened-Despotic Modernization in the Era of II. Mahmud) were awarded the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) award in the field of copyrighted works. Yüksel Çelik, a faculty member in the Department of History at Marmara University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, has published numerous works on his main areas of interest: Ottoman history in the modern era, science and art in the Ottoman world in the 19th century, architecture, modernization, and the history of military reform.
