Reinterpreting the Craftsmanship Today: Is It New Craftsmanship?

Abstract

Craftsmanship which can be defined as the combination of the skill which is gained after the learning processed is completed or as the handmade production of the objects, was the main production type before Industrial Revolution. Together with the transition of the mass production, craftsmanship lost its value in economy, craftsmen became workers and pro type products superseded the handicrafts products. Unfortunately, within this change the interest to craftsmanship was decreased. However, the interest to craftsmanship is getting increasing day by day. It can be said that, this growing interests has got different economic, cultural and social reasons. Active labour market programs which provide employment and the national and international decisions about protecting the handicrafts and the appreciation of the consumption of the handicrafts products in the postmodern society within the scope of new consumption patterns may be regarded as the examples of the arousing interest of the craftsmanship. Within the scope of this study, it is discussed that craftsmanship is not an alternative to mass production in spite of the growing interest to craftsmanship and the commoditized of handicraft products which symbolizes the local culture in global world. According to this, the concepts of craft and craftsmanship has been explained and then the place of craftsmanship in the social life, premodern, modern and postmodern period evaluated and the reasons of growing interest to craftsmanship has been described through this study.

Zanaatkârlığın Günümüzde Yeniden Yorumlanması: Yeni Zanaatkârlık mı?

Abstract

Öğrenme sürecinin ardından kazanılan vasıf ile nesnelerin büyük ölçüde el ile üretimi olarak tanımlanabilen zanaatkârlık, Endüstri Devrimi öncesi tarım dışı başat üretim tipidir. Makineli üretime geçiş ile birlikte; zanaat üretimi ekonomideki önemli yerini yitirmiş, zanaatkârlar işçileşmiş, zanaat ürünlerinin yerini tek tip ürünler almıştır. Bu dönüşüm içinde zanaatkârlığa ilgi de azalmıştır. Ancak günümüzde, zanaatkârlığa ve zanaat ürünlerine ilgide artış gözlenmektedir. Bu artışın kültürel, toplumsal ve ekonomik olmak üzere farklı nedenleri olduğu söylenebilir. Meslek edindirmeye yönelik aktif işgücü piyasası programlarını, el sanatları geleneğinin korunmasına yönelik ulusal ve uluslararası kararların alınmasını, el emeği ürünlerin tüketiminin postmodern toplumda yeni tüketim alışkanlıkları içinde değer kazanmasını zanaatkârlığa ilginin örnekleri olarak değerlendirmek mümkündür. Bu çalışma kapsamında, söz konusu ilgiye rağmen zanaatkârlığın, günümüzde makineli üretime alternatif olamadığı, yeniden zanaatkârlaşmadan ziyade küresel dünyada yerel kültürün simgesi olan zanaat ürünlerinin metalaşması tartışılmaktadır. Buna göre, öncelikle zanaat ve zanaatkârlık kavramları ortaya konmakta, ardından modern öncesi, modern ve postmodern dönemlerde zanaatkârlığın toplumsal yaşamdaki yeri değerlendirilerek, günümüzdeki ilginin nedenleri değerlendirilmektedir.
