The Emergence of Manufacture and Its Role in the Transition to the Factory System: A Review within the Context of Labour Process

Abstract

Manufacture, as in Latin “manu factum: made by hand”, is the process of producing homogenous goods by a number of handicraftsmen working in a workshop under one capitalist. Manufacture is a capitalist mode of production and its emergence was brought about by medieval artisanal mode of production going through various phases. Since, in accordance with the co-operation, the division of labor becomes widespread in manufacture, the productivity of labor increases signally. Manufacture is a transition from the artisanal production to the factory system and provides the conditions to the latter.

Manüfaktürün Ortaya Çıkışı ve Fabrika Üretimine Geçişte Manüfaktürün Rolü: Emek Süreci Bağlamında Bir Değerlendirme

Abstract

Latince “manu factum: el ile yapılmış” kelimelerinin birleşimi doğrultusunda el ile yapılan üretimi ifade eden manüfaktür, tek bir kapitalistin patronluğu altında aynı iş yerinde, bir ya da birden fazla işi gerçekleştiren el zanaatkârlarının (handicraftsmen) türdeş meta üretmek üzere bir arada çalışmalardır. Kapitalist bir üretim tarzı olan manüfaktürün ortaya çıkışı, Orta Çağ zanaat üretiminin çeşitli aşamalardan geçmesi sonucunda olmuştur. Manüfaktürde iş birliği doğrultusunda iş bölümünün işçiler arasında yaygınlaşması, emeğin üretkenliğinde de gözle görülür bir artış ortaya çıkarmıştır. Manüfaktür,  makineli sanayi ile zanaat üretimi arasında bir köprü görevi görerek, fabrika sistemine geçiş için gerekli koşulları hazırlamıştır.
