Occupational Health and Safety Problem in Domestic Services

Abstract

Domestic services are one of the leading employment areas of unskilled female workers, especially in the urban areas. The complexity of the employment relationship, exclusion from social protection, the lack of a stable job description and the special character of the working space, make occupational health and safety measures more important for domestic workers. The main objective of this study is determining the occupational risks which domestic workers may face, regarding their working conditions. In this study, we first depicted the social and legal statutes of domestic services, and then we examined the occupational health and safety risks, encountered by domestic labour.

Ev Hizmetlerinde Mesleki Sağlık ve Güvenlik Sorunu

Abstract

Ev hizmetleri, özellikle kentlerde, niteliksiz kadın işgücünün yoğun olduğu istihdam alanlarının başında gelmektedir. Bu atipik istihdam formunda, istihdam ilişkisinin karmaşıklığı, tek ve sabit bir iş tanımının bulunmayışı, çalışma mekânının ev oluşu ve sosyal koruma mekanizmalarının dışında kalması, ev hizmetlerinde çalışanlar için iş sağlığı ve güvenliği önlemlerini önemli hale getirmektedir. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, ev hizmetlerinde istihdam edilenlerin çalışma koşullarını inceleyerek; karşılaşabilecekleri mesleki sağlık ve güvenlik risklerini ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmada, öncelikle ev hizmetlerinin sosyal ve yasal konumu tasvir edilmiş, ardından çalışma mekânı ev olan bu güvencesiz istihdam formunda karşılaşılan iş sağlığı ve güvenliği riskleri incelenmiştir.
